The Swansea City Term Loan Paul Arriola has apologized for a number of “offensive” and “discriminatory” comments he posted on social media nearly ten years ago.

The messages were published in 2012, but recently resurfaced on Twitter, prompting an apology from the 26-year-old US international, who is on loan from DC United of Major League Soccer.

“I am ashamed and I apologize for the choice of offensive and discriminatory words I used in the tweets as they were not acceptable then or now,” Arriola said in a statement on Twitter.

“I can assure you that I have grown and learned since then and those tweets didn’t accurately describe me as a human at this point in my life, and they sure don’t now.

“Those who know me know my true character … I am aware of the privileged position in which I am as a professional athlete and role model … and I can assure you that posts containing such language will never be again. used. “

Swansea said they were made aware of the messages, which were posted before Arriola joined the Welsh club.

“We want to make it clear that we do not tolerate any form of discriminatory behavior on the part of anyone associated with our club,” Swansea said in a statement.

“Swansea City has discussed the issue with Paul, and we support his decision to be the one to respond to these historic tweets and offer an apology.

“Paul is committed to participating in both unconscious and conscious bias training, which he will undertake upon his return to DC United.”
