Sugar production up 13% so far this market year to 307 lakh ton: ISMA
NEW DELHI : India’s sugar production rose 13% through June 15 of MY 2020-21 to 306.65 lakh tonnes on higher sugarcane production, trade data shows.
The sugar marketing campaign runs from October to September.
“Sugar factories across the country produced 306.65 lakh tonnes of sugar between October 1, 2020 and June 15, 2021. This is 35.54 lake tonnes more than the 271.11 lake tonnes produced in the same period. last year, “the Indian Association of Sugar Mills (ISMA) said in a statement.
Only five factories are currently operating in the country.
In Uttar Pradesh, sugar production stood at 110.61 lakh tonnes until June 15, 2020-21 compared to 126.30 lakh tonnes in the corresponding period of the previous year.
Sugar production in Maharashtra increased to 106.28 lakh tonnes from 61.69 lakh tonnes during the period under review.
In Karnataka, sugar production increased to 41.67 lakh tonnes from 33.80 lakh tonnes.
According to port information and market reports, ISMA said factories have so far contracted 58 lakh tonnes of sugar export against the government quota of 60 lakh tonnes of sugar for 2020-2021.
Of this total, around 45.74 lakh tonnes of sugar were physically exported out of the country.
It is also reported that around 5-6 tonnes of sugar are being prepared for physical export in June 2021.
In addition to the above, the sugar industry had exported 4.49 lakh tonnes of sugar in the October-December 2020 quarter compared to the 2019-2020 marketing year export quota.
ISMA said demand for sugar could exceed 260 lakh tonnes in MY 2020-21, up from 253 lakh tonnes the year before.
He fixed sugar exports at 70 lakh tons.
“In addition to the higher domestic sales of 8-10 tonnes lakh in the current year to the end of September 2021, compared to last season, current year’s sugar exports are expected to be d ‘around 70 lakh tonnes, giving the industry confidence that the closing balance for September 2021 will be around 20-25 lakh tonnes less than last season’s closing balance, ”ISMA said .
