Mortgage lender seeks to win in FHA whistleblower fraud lawsuit

By Grace Elletson (June 24, 2022, 7:28 p.m. EDT) – A mortgage lender has asked a federal court in California to award it a victory in a whistleblower lawsuit accusing the company of taking out unqualified loans from the Federal Housing Administration to increase profits, arguing that the whistleblower showed no fraudulent activity.

Academy Mortgage Corp. on Thursday urged the court to grant its request for summary judgment against claims by former underwriter Gwen Thrower, who sued the company on behalf of the government under the False Claims Act, alleging she approved FHA loans unsuitable for obtaining government insurance money.
