Dover Street Market x New Balance 991 Release Info
Rei Kawakubo and Adrian Joffe’s multi-brand concept retailer, Dover Street Market, has produced dozens of highly sought-after collaborations since opening in 2004, serving up everything from its recent velor Nike Dunks to Vans Slip-Ons, but now a new sneaker is about to step into the ring — a DSM x New Balance 991.
In a turn of events that no one saw coming, Dover Street Market’s social media accounts teased a rather delusional picture of the upcoming collaboration. It’s still unclear if it’s embracing the store’s abiding love of all things black and white, given the image’s fuzzy, blurry aesthetic, but what can be seen is that the heels are adorned with DSM branding in the 991 brand theme which is usually placed on the back of the shoe.
The New Balance 991 has been a staple shoe in many sneakerhead rotations since its first release in 2001, and today it remains a fan favorite for its aesthetic and “dad shoe” comfort. This comes courtesy of an ABZORB wrapped sole unit – which can be seen in DSM’s teaser – as well as an Ndurance rubber compound outsole.
So far, DSM said the 991 collab “will soon be coming to Dover Street Market locations worldwide, in-store and online.”” He said DSM London, New York, Los Angeles, Ginza , Singapore and Beijing will stock the pairs – but that doesn’t mean mass hysteria won’t happen.
Take a look at the teaser above and stay tuned to HYPEBEAST for more information on the upcoming collaboration.
