Wyndham City invites residents to provide their input on the types of programs they would like to see at two new sports reserves.

Work on the reserves, at Alcock Road in Truganina and Bensonhurst Parade in Point Cook, is due to be completed later this year.

Each of the reserves will offer soccer, cricket and tennis programs and residents can have a say in how the programs are offered to ensure that activities meet age, sporting requirements (beginners, middlemen or seniors) and the values of the local communities that will use the site.

Following this first round of engagement, face-to-face community meetings will be held in August where residents can share further feedback or raise their hands to get involved as club volunteers.

Wyndham Mayor Peter Maynard said he is eager to see more athletic opportunities available to residents of Wyndham’s growth areas.

“I know parents travel quite a distance to reach sports clubs at the moment and it will be great to see these clubs established closer to home,” he said.

“It’s exciting to be able to influence a club’s programming so that it meets community needs and promotes member values – especially when for many clubs become a home away from home.

“We know that some residents will be looking to play in a formal competition with a club, while others will prefer to play in a more social and less competitive setting. There may also be interest in coaching or tuition with a professional coach and others will be happy to show up and play with family and friends. This survey aims to understand how our community wants to play.

“I also look forward to seeing these reserves become important gathering places in the community, for activities and events other than formal sport,” said Cr Maynard.
