On Monday, June 28, the Battle Ground Public School Board will hear the first public reading of a recommendation made by the Middle School Sexual Health Advisory Committee to adopt the HealthSmart curriculum for use in the sexual health education to state law (parents can withdraw their child from all lessons, or per unit).
Battle Ground Public Schools value community input and understand that this topic can generate a high level of public interest. To facilitate this feedback in an orderly fashion, the district provides information on the current rules for council meetings and the limits for in-person participation.
The board meeting will begin at 6 p.m. at the Lewisville Mid-Campus, 406 NW Fifth Ave., Battle Ground, as well as remote broadcast by videoconference.
Members of the public are welcome to attend, but should be aware that current health and safety requirements regarding the physical remoteness and size of the meeting space limit the capacity of the seating area to 25 people. maximum. Anyone attending in person will be required to log in, attest and maintain a physical distance of six feet. Participants must wear masks, unless they can attest to being fully immunized, per state requirements.
Anyone wishing to comment publicly is encouraged to email their first and last name, phone number, home address, email address and the topic you will be discussing to [email protected] no later than 5:00 p.m. the day of the Meeting. Additionally, please note whether you will be addressing the board remotely via Zoom or in person.
Citizen comments are limited to a maximum of three minutes each, with a maximum time of 30 minutes, unless Council decides to extend the deadline. If there are more than 10 clients registered to testify, the individual timelines will decrease accordingly.
If you are unable to speak within this time frame, a copy of your remarks can be sent to [email protected], and they will be shared with board members.
Council members do not normally respond to questions or petitions during citizen comments. They will listen and give direction to the administrative team if action is deemed necessary.
